Durbin & Greenbrier Valley #3 in steam

The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley RR had thier former Moore-Keppel Lumber Co. Climax #3 in operation last Sunday on a special train operated for the memebers of the West Virginia Railroad Museum.

1. What a great sounding whistle.

2. Lots of clanks there, but it should pass inspection.

3. It barely fits in that engine shed.

Not long after arrival in Durbin the #3 axle broke during a run. The truck was rolled out and disassembled. I took the axle and wheels to a machine shop in Okland, MD to have a new axle manufactured. They pressed off the wheels and created a new axle. I remember distinctly the shop owner said it had 11 different diameters on it! Don't ask what they were, I didn't ask and as long as the truck went back together, all was well.
