Fillmore & Western on Food Network (Mystery Diners) tomorrow
Author: JDLX

Greetings-

The rest of my family noticed while scrolling through forthcoming TV listings that the Fillmore & Western is slated to appear in the new episode of Food Network's "Mystery Diners" tomorrow night (22 April).  Promo for the show and a link should follow.

Jeff Moore

Dave, owner of Fillmore and Western Railway, in Fillmore, Calif., is concerned about missing supplies and rumors of unauthorized passengers during his train's "dinner theater" service. Charles sends in Mystery Diners Shelby and JR to see who the train robbers really are. (Episode: YM0912H)

There have been a few Food Netwrok shows over the years that have used the Morristown & Erie and at least one on the Sierra.  Sadly, a lot of the stuff on the Food Network has gotten really hokey, but at least in the case of the M&E it was a good opportunity to see the interiors of their cars.  I always enjoy watching food prep on a moving train, even if it is with artificial drama.

I've noticed that a lot of "B roll" footage in these on-location food shows, like Restaurant Impossible, Kitchen Nightmares, etc. often feature trains in whatever locale they are shooting in. Must be a bunch of foamers working behind the scenes for these shows.

Thanks for the tip, got a chance to watch it.  It's a shame friends of the host came before her job.  I wonder, how did she get the train to stop to let friends on?  There must have been more than just the chef and hostess involved.

Mystery Diners is a sham. They freely admit the shows are scripted.

As someone who has worked on several "reality" TV shows, both on and off camera,  there is a reason that you sign a confidentiality agreement before you can work on or be on the show.  If they ask you to sign one and sign a waiver and release, you can bet that it is "scripted" in some manner.  If they just go do it, then it is reality.  In the end, how "real" can it be, with camera men, lights etc all around.

Surprisingly, in my experience, the paranormal shows, like ghost hunter type shows tend to have the most "reality".  If they script something, it is often the result of something that actually happened and they are trying to re create it for the camera.  If they find anything they say so, and if they don't then they say that also.

If they are really trying for reality, they don't mind if you talk about it afterward.  If they are not, then they absolutely do not want you saying anything at all.

So, was this a re-enactment of events that occured, or did it actually not occur?  It's hard to tell anymore...
