Steam & Excursion > Heisler arrives in TillamookDate: 04/23/15 20:00 Heisler arrives in Tillamook Author: Jeff_Johnston The ongoing saga of the Sunset Timber Heisler. The locomotive is now parked securely in its spot in the yards at Tillamook, folowing an interesting unloading process from its transport truck. It was a rainy but interesting operation.
1) Sitting on the now-disconnected trailer in front of the Tillamook blimp hanger. 2) Being cautiously rolled down the temporary rail ramp from the trailer to the ground. 3) Safely parked in a resting spot in the yard. Tim Thompson is busy digging a hole in the ballast so the chain can be passed under the rail to secure the locootive. Watch this space for a video, coming soon.

Date: 04/23/15 23:17 Re: Heisler arrives in Tillamook Author: Jeff_Johnston Yes, it rolled just fine. Apparently had something to do with all the lubrication they added when they first inspected it, perhaps it "soaked in."

Ed Date: 04/24/15 15:02 Re: Heisler arrives in Tillamook Author: nycman Just out of curiosity, what was the routing of the high load with the Heisler on it, after leaving I-5? I know they couldn't have cleared the tunnel on 101 near Heceta Head. Looking forward to my next visit to OCSR, where things are happening.

Jeff Date: 04/24/15 16:49 Re: Heisler arrives in Tillamook Author: flash34 This is an 85 ton model, so it's considerably larger than the other Heislers at OCSR. As for the routing, it was 26 and 6 over the hill, then the back way into the POTB to avoid the railroad underpass just outside Tillamook. The engine was chained because it kept spitting out the skate they tried to use.
