Fairly dramatic up-hill stretch.  The overcast was just a little too much to allow anymore depth of field.

 I shot multiple frames as he came up the hill and this is the only one with fire showing.  I think it was just a flash.

Great photo! And thanks all for your kind words! As part of our steam program we are training a new crop of firemen so don't judge the new folks on the color of the stack too hard... yet... Trust me, they hear plenty from the other side of the cab. ;) otherwise, come on out and see the festivities tomorrow and Monday at the Northwest Railway Museum!
