SP 2472 on the Niles Canyon Railway This Morning
Author: billmeeker

SP 2472 ran on the Niles Canyon Railway today - on all three trips the 2472 and train was pulled west to Niles by Fairbanks-Morse 1487.  A fine sight and sound indeed!

Given the growth of equipment acquisitions by the NCRY, are there plans to move more stuff down to Niles for storage, assuming facilities could be built?  I see space in there photos, but I'm just wondering?  Brightside is pretty cramped right now.  It's obviously more secure, but space is at a premium.  Again, just wondering...

And you guys at NCRY do super work--love this BALDWIN diesel with the tiger stripes and bell.  And BALDWIN diesels make such a cool "purring, burbling" sound while idling...

A few more.  The restored SP Niles, California depot and freight building are in the background, now hosting a museum and HO and N scale model railroads.

Unless these tired old eyes are deceiving me, coach, what you're describing as a BALDWIN Diesel, is, in reality, either a Fairbanks-Morse H-10-44, or, an H-12-44, no?

FM H-12-44.  That was originally my mistake, I reversed them!

And the 2472 is still slated to move off the property to some other location?

fyi, GGRM rather than NCRy are responsible for restoration of both 2472 and (F.M. 1487), so just credit where due.
