Happy Independence Day.  Probably the best known Icon of steam to express this message is none other than 4449.   These two from the AFT "Reborn" following the terrorist attack on New York City of 2001.  First one profile in Bend, March 2002, the second at Portland Union Station prior to leaving on this excursion.

I never saw the "Reborn" AFT 4449- are those the number boards she carried during the 1975-76 tour?
As built, the forward number boards were relatively flush and "streamlined". Later, when the boards were relocated to the center of the skyline casing, new ones were fabricated that really stuck out further.
In the AFT rebuild the 2nd generation boards were simply moved forward. I thought they looked kind of goofy, but no one ever seemed to notice- so what do I know!
Anyway- if in creating the reborn AFT Daylight this detail was included (and it appears so).......Bravo!
