Early Morning Out Behind Union Station - Lots Of Activity Going!
Author: LoggerHogger

As with any hub of transportation, the railroad station has a busy atmosphere even out of the public view.  Here we see just such a scene.

The morning sun has just broken the horizon over a rail yard in the West in the early 1950's.  Our photographer did not label the town where this fine view was captured.  The star of the scene is Union Pacific 4-8-4 #802 as she backs through the yards out behind the station ready to tie onto her next passenger train.

The passenger cars of previous trains are being readied for redeployment by crews both on the ground and by the yard goat diesel in the center that is making up the train sets. All this is going on while the commuter cars on the overhead bridge pass over oblivious to the activity below them.

Such was once the daily routine at such stations all across the West.

That is a great shot!  Everyday railroading.
