Ugly locomotive
Author: C.P.Huntington

Shop switchers were just about the ugliest locomotive on any railroad. Being out of the public's eye little or
no effort was spent in trying to make them attractive. Southern Pacific 219 started out as a steam dummy
before being rebuilt to serve as the shop switcher for the Los Angeles shops and later the Bayshore shops in
San Francisco. This engine still exists today at the Traveltown museum and is slowing being restored to working
order.

My thanks to go Trainorders.com member LoggerHogger who posted the photo I used to make this pen and
ink drawing.  Original photo can be seen here (scroll down to middle of page): http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?10,3486455,3487277#msg-3487277
