Steam & Excursion > After The Mainline Train Leaves The Work Starts At The Junction!Date: 07/29/15 04:14 After The Mainline Train Leaves The Work Starts At The Junction! Author: LoggerHogger While this is one of the most picturesque Junction Depots in the West, it still followed the normal routines of most Junction depots.
Here we see in May 1938 in this fine Guy L. Dunscomb photo the Western Pacific depot at Quincy Junction in the Feather River Canyon. From the piles of boxes and bags on the the baggage carts we can tell that the WP mainline train has just departed after dropping this items off for delivery to the waiting crews on the Quincy Railroad. The first of the carts is being loaded onto the waiting caboose for delivery to the small nearby town of Quincy, California. While a recent rain has left the depot platform wet it has not slowed down the daily chores that will be repeated for years and years at this little depot in the mountains. Martin Edited 3 time(s). Chama Steam freight excursions in mid-October always leave early and we make sure the caboose coal stove (if operable) has been lit and is warming up the car before attendees arrive. I'll arrive the afternoon before and shovel out the clinkers, make sure a bucket of coal is full, and have waste rags and small wood pieces ready to go for the next morning.
