Steam & Excursion > In The Highball Days Of Steam Logging The Loads Were Huge!Date: 08/01/15 05:11 In The Highball Days Of Steam Logging The Loads Were Huge! Author: LoggerHogger Railroad logging was born when steam power became large enough to handle the old-growth forests found in the U.S.. No timber was larger than that found in the Pacific Northwest.
In this view we see Manary Logging Shay #4 of Siletz, Oregon and her loaded disconnect cars filled with just such huge timber. Remember #4 is a 50-ton Lima engine. Even at that size she is dwarfed by the first log on her first car. It is just such logs that made steam powered loggin railroads such a necessity. Martin Edited 3 time(s). If we did we would probably ship it to China though.
