Steam & Excursion > Scranton to Binghamton Steam Excursions Are CancelledDate: 08/26/15 09:34 Scranton to Binghamton Steam Excursions Are Cancelled Author: Rich_Melvin The Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley Chapter, NRHS has just announced the cancellation of the steam excursions planned for September 12 and 13. These trips were to have run out of Scranton, PA to Binghamton, NY with a stop in Nicholson, PA to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Tunkhannock Viaduct. NKP 765 was slated to pull these trips.
The cancellation is because the closing date for the purchase of this line by NS got pushed back a few months. The L&WV chapter had anticipated that these trains would run as part of Norfolk Southern's 21st Century Steam Program. However, since the closing date for the sale of this line from CP to NS got moved back several months, the deal was not closed in time to do this. The chapter will be issuing refunds to all ticket holders. For those of you who still would like to ride a steam train out of Scranton, tickets are still available for the 765's trips out of Steamtown on Labor Day Weekend. Purchase tickets for those trips here... 'Shame to miss an opportunity to raise some extra cash for the group, or even B&M #3713 and /or DLW #565. . Are there any other routes viable, even if at another nearby line or tourist operation via a ferry move? Would be nice to offer a fall back ride of some sort for those who already made travel plans (no duh, right?). Assume crew is (still) available and freight traffic in the area would seem light "enough" - but I'm just wondering from a railfan's point of view, not a railroaders! /Mitch Date: 08/26/15 11:21 Re: Scranton to Bighmanton Steam Excursions Are Cancelled Author: elsdp45 What does this mean for the upcoming 261 trips? Don't they run on CP?

------------------------------------------------------- > Any chance of an alternative trip that weekend? No. Once the Labor Day weekend events are done at Steamtown, we will move west, headed for the CVSR. No need to keep the crew out east any longer than necessary. That gets expensive real fast. 765 will run three weekends on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad in September and October. Rich Melvin Columbus, OH My Web Site Edited 4 time(s). We sure enjoyed having you guys on the R&N. It was great to meet you and chat for a bit on Sunday's trip. Hope you guys can come "back east" again sometime.
Chris Bost Leesport, PA Date: 08/26/15 17:21 Re: Scranton to Binghamton Steam Excursions Are Cancelled Author: JJSmith Sorry to hear about this but, I did expect it due to the NS purchase being moved back. I was looking forward to eating in the dining car.
I did however get to ride the Lehigh Gorge trip on Saturday and enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks to the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society, NS, and the R&N! Maybe a winter's sojourn is in order for one of the next few years coming up? I would love to see 765 pulling an Ice Train to Tobyhanna...plus you could have access to the shop facilities and such for winter work on the engine...(just a railfan dream/thought) Jim Lipnitz Morrisville, PA Big Jim Video Productions Date: 08/27/15 09:00 Re: Scranton to Binghamton Steam Excursions Are Cancelled Author: HotWater bigjim4life Wrote:

NOT for the crew, however. |
