Northwest Tourist Lines- Part 4- Chehalis-Centralia
Author: JDLX

Since I missed yesterday, and this is a short post, I will add it tonight.

The day after visiting Snoqualmie we transitioned from the mountains to the Oregon coast.  In previous years we had ridden the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad on similar travel days, but I'd known they had yet to run anything in 2015 on account that the Form 4 work on their Cowlitz, Chehalis & Cascade 2-8-2 #15 had yet to be completed.  The operating certification on the locomotive expired at the end of 2014, and several years ago the railroad obtained CC&C 2-8-0 #25 with plans to have it operational before the #15 came out of service.  That didn't happen, and at the time of our visit last year the stated plans were to have the work done on the #15 in time to start the 2015 season, and then go to work on the #25.  Work on the #15, however, has been held up pending required FRA approvals, and without an operating locomotive, nor apparently the means to get another one, the railroad is silent this year.

We pulled into Chehalis just long enough to snap a couple pictures, including the sign taped to the depot door explaining their closure.  The two open air cars are on the siding next to the depot, and the #15's tender is tucked alongside the shop with some other equipment.

Next up, Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad.

This bunch needs new leadership. They could be using western. Washington railroads diesel. Look at all the money that they have lost.the money could have been used to get the 25 running. They have also had one of the best steam guys in the northwest offer to get the 15 back running. They turned him down. Very sad.

Why, how, does this group "need new leadership"?

The diesel was offered to us at a cost of more than we would have made for each trip.  As far as the best steam guy in the northwest , he wanted one thousand dollars to come and look at it and said he didn't have time to work on it.  As far as new leadership, the city council of Chehalis needs a new member, one that dosen't run down this railroad frequenly on a public forum.

Well, I guess like with anything else associated as such,  anyone interested enough, please feel free to " step-up".
