RailGiants - a trip to the 40s!
Author: Harlock

Last night Steve Crise and I put on our third night photo shoot at the RailGiants museum in Pomona, CA. As before, the event is a benefit for the RailGiants museum. We use practical effects such as smoke, water and lighting to bring the scene to life for our photographers. The night was a great success for the small group of photographers and we all went home very happy.

We had a beautiful young married couple stop in on their way to a swing dancing event that they attend regularly. They were wonderful models with wonderful attire and we look forward to working with them and perhaps some of their friends again some time!

You may have spotted an anachronism! are they supposed to be black? Thanks to modern technology, it can be fixed!

Too bad about that malfunctioning dwarf signal . . . with a train in the circuit, it should show nothing but a STOP indication. Not to mention, it looks very B&O-ish. Other than that, very nice production!

Here is one in the stop position :) And we were kind of going for a more east coast look. It's an NKP car. Business car 06.

Love the photos. Nice job.

I am surprised to see dwarf color-position-light signals in California. How'd that end up so far from home?

Yes .  And what about the seam down the back of the lady's hose! My mom wore those seamed hose well into the 60's!  Seriously...You guys sure did a great job, Mike!

Great shots - very nostalgic and prefectly dressed for the occasion (almost!).

Curious myslef about the dwarf signal - seems an odd placment, as if it's jsut
there as a "fun" prop.  Would such a signal ever be placed as such - on a
platform at a station as so?

Black socks were standard and required issue and probably still are. The signal looks like a prop...

It's a plywood base meant to look like concrete, and on the back is a little rotary dial to select the light positions. So yes we just plopped it down there to add some light and interest to the shot. :) It is not fixed in the ground there. not sure who it belonged to.

You would not have to look very far to find a low signal in a passenger terminal like this. Most of you are quick to dismiss the artistic value but miss that the signal is likely not even for the train that the soldier is boarding but governs the track to left of the camera and not in the frame. :)

Rest assured, CG Tower will get the bottom of how that B&O signal got to California.

With his help, CSX will be knocking on your door in a day or two. Maybe they'll give him another 'at a boy' letter or maybe even a hat this time.

The hose may have had a seam down the back in the 60's, but during the war the seam was drawn on with an eyebrow pencil.  Shortage of nylons.......
