This Brute Was Battling Snow Over Donner 70 Years Ago Today!
Author: LoggerHogger

Over on the Western Board we see that snow is finally falling over Donner Pass in the High Sierra.  That makes this photo even more relevant.

In printing up some negatives today I just came across one that had a date that stood out.  Yes, this fine photo of SP 2-8-0 #2826 with her sizable plow blade was taken at Truckee, California on November 28, 1945 - exactly 70 years ago today!

Built by ALCO in 1908 as part of SP's C-9 Class Consolidations she was superheated in 1918.  On this day she rests between assignments over Donner just 3 months after the end of WW-2.  She will serve SP for another 9 years before being written off the roster and will last another year before being scrapped at South San Francisco.

On this Day 70 years ago she was the star of the Truckee yards when our un-named photographer trained his camera on her in the low winter light.
