Steam & Excursion > 4449 leaves the depotDate: 11/30/15 08:00 4449 leaves the depot Author: flash34 To give a little different perspective from Bruce's well-done contribution yesterday, here's a little more standard run-by shot. I was first-shift fireman on Saturday and about when I was done some family showed up to hang out and go for a ride. Before we left for lunch I told them we should watch the next departure from the depot on the 1.3% grade. Before we walked away from the engine I asked Doyle if he would give her a little extra, which he did, in fine form. Here's how she sounded. Turn it up. I-phone video by Tim Gordon.

those little ones... Surprised no one else snared her before she got away. John. Date: 11/30/15 11:40 Re: 4449 leaves the depot Author: Frisco1522 How far do they move back and forth? Good chance to do a little bit of shakedown work?
Date: 11/30/15 12:19 Re: 4449 leaves the depot Author: flash34 Don, we have about 3 miles or so that we can run on, for about a 6-7 mile round trip, generally not at more than about 12-13 mph. But as far as checking on the work we did, this will tell us everything we need to know. We didn't do any major running gear work really, so speed isn't necessary.
Date: 11/30/15 13:17 Re: 4449 leaves the depot Author: dcautley Santa insists on 10-11 MPH so he has time to visit with everyone. Speed in 1 or 2 curves is further restricted.
These trips are not for "us" rather for the families of Portland and other places who may never have ridden a train, much less with a world class locomotive. Speed is for a later day.... (and after more work on our cars.... no rest for the wicked.) I'm delighted to report that seats for the first weekend were 94% sold, including 97% on Saturday. If you're coming, don't wait too long... ! GREAT BARK!! THANK you, EVERYONE who worked on her Form 4 /1472!! You done good!! That is a GREAT video! THANK you!! About that little girl who ran after the 4449 --- that is why harnesses and leashes were invented. I. Am. Serious!! Really! Used 'em with my kids long ago, and they worked great, and kept them from darting away when I took my eyes off them for one second. (I swear -- little ones seem to almost be able to teleport -- they move so FAST so SUDDENLY!) Date: 12/04/15 18:29 Re: 4449 leaves the depot Author: ProAmtrak Awesome video, my girl looks great!
