UP's VP-Law is Out The Door
Author: The_Chief_Way

So, according to Trains Newswire, Gayla Thal has quit, was fired or retired as of Jan.29.
The news blurb is related to a story on Hunter Harrison and the current merger mania,
but one has to wonder if this has any bearing on the Cheyenne lawsuits.

The Dickens harassment lawsuit for a company like UP are really small potatos. But it could be part of an overall poorly functioning leagal department.

Is she the one that went after Lionel Trains because she was shocked, shocked that they had been making UP toy trains for a hundred years without a license?

No. The person behind THAT was was the CEO himself Dick Davidson, who ordered the VP - Law at the time, Taylor.

I find no such article on the Trains Newswire and a search of the site using Gayla Thal produces nothing.  Was this today?

This was in a article dated 2/4/2016 by Fred Frailey which included an interview with CP's Hunter Harrison.  The article indicated the VP-Law's retirement would be efective 1/31/2016. I accessed the blog through a social media site.

Yes, I just checked.  It is a Frailey piece on Hunter Harrison titled "Will he or won't he?" or some such.

Sometimes people actually just retire after 36 years with the railroad.

Slightly unusual that the official announcement was 2 days before the effective date.  Usually people have leave time or such and depart well before an effective date...

Someone at the Senior Vice President level usually don't leave that suddenly unless there's been some bad news.

"We are thankful for Gayla's contributions," said Chairman Lance Fritz.

Not exactly a rousing send off. Something else was going on.

I totally agree---quick departures on 2 days notice is highly suspect---same thing happened with John Rebensdorf a couple of years ago.

They decided to be nice and let her retire instead of firing her. Same result, the "problem" is gone.

"We are thankful for Gayla's contributions," said Chairman Lance Fritz.

Talk about "damning with faint praise"!

Wow.......

Maybe she's going to work for Hunter, or be one of the new slate proposed for CPNS?

Sounds like coincidence since it seems she must've been part of protecting Ed Dickens!
