A very quick and easy Google search showed me it was a 2-8-8-2 and scrapped in 1956 Posted from iPhone Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/05/16 15:50 by Spoony81. Thank You! Date: 02/05/16 19:59 Re: D&RGW #3616 Author: TrackGuy Class L-131. They were the largest steam locomotives in the world when they were first built.
TrackGuy Date: 02/06/16 08:19 Re: D&RGW #3616 Author: tomstp 3616 was class L-132, not L-131. First 10 were L-131, last 10 L-132

Out Date: 02/06/16 11:26 Re: D&RGW #3616 Author: tomstp Yes they did work into Alamosa at the end of steam and amazingly so did the 1400 series F-1 2-10-2's. I would have loved to hear them go over La Veta pass. There were a lot of tight curves on the line.
Date: 02/06/16 11:40 Re: D&RGW #3616 Author: WW None of the D&RGW's standard gauge locomotives that were still under D&RGW ownership survived after 1956. The 3600's were some of the last to go, but none was saved. D&RGW 583/683 is the only surviving D&RGW standard gauge locomotive, which the D&RGW sold to the San Luis Valley Southern before the end of D&RGW standard gauge steam. The 683 is at the Colorado Railroad Museum.
