ATSF 2926 Update - January 30, 2016
Author: Cumbresfan

Cold mornings and mild afternoons made this week's work sessions more tolerable as the rain and snow have departed for a while. Work mostly involved installation or planning for installation of various steam and air lines removed in the early stages of the restoration. Before steam line installation, the piping is first wrapped and then painted with RustBullet. So much insulation wrap is being used that the supplier is temporarily out of stock! While this is going on, updates to the cab instrumentation display is being planned. At least one new gauge is planned to display feedwater status. Of course, sometimes old pipe joints and unions defy restoration and must be replaced. This is the case for the air brake radiator piping.

The latest issue of our quarterly newsletter has been linked on the website. It contains updates, photos, stories and historical notes and it's eight pages makes for more than just a few minutes reading.

If I haven't mentioned it before, the January Society minutes have been posted. They provide transparency information on funding, fundraising status, items of general interest to members, and coming events.

Lastly, please remember our GoFundMe effort for an engine shelter. We are more than two-thirds toward funding the building which will be erected on the east end of our work siding. We will be staying there for the near future; our lease with GSA has been extended for another five years.

I recently visited the work site and was very impressed with the professionalism of the crew and the progress they've made towards restoring this magnificent locomotive to service. She'll be under steam soon and what a sight that will be!!

I would encourage any who can afford to do so to make a donation to this project to help them across the finish line.

   Thanks, Ross Rowland

Thank you for your comments and support, Ross.
We greatly appreciate all the donations from our supporters as we move to completion, hopefully later this year.
