Steamtown Baldwin #26 - First Excursions of 2016
Author: bigjim4life

Big Jim Video Productions was at Steamtown NHS on Sunday, April 17, 2016 to witness a remarkable and special occasion.  For the first time since 1999, Baldwin Locomotive Works 0-6-0 #26 was fired up and ready to pull her first revenue passenger trains around the Scranton, PA yard complex.  After a short ceremony and speech by Park Superintendent Debbie Conway, #26 made her way out to the yard to pick up her coaches, and then it was off to begin a day of pulling the Scranton Limited.  Here is a small sample of the action found - for more, visit my YouTube page for the full video.  Enjoy!

Great to see steam back at Steamtown.   Really nice video.  Great clarity.

I would love to see Steamtown incorporate a switching exhibition using some of their vintage freight cars.

I nice Baldwin number plate on the smokebox door would finish the masterpiece.
Looks and sounds great.

Very nice video, thanks for sharing it with us.

I have a friend who calls it "sometimes steam town." Is this fair? How many engines in their inventory actually run? I've seen videos of diesels operating there, which is fine, but maybe the place needs relabeling? Or am I way off base? I postulate a lack of funding.

Anyway, thanks again. d

This is their only operable steam locomotive and will be for the foreseeable future.

I'm sure that olive drab paint color is prototypical to the original locomotive.

Both the lack of numberplate and color are the way Baldwin built it.

Any insight as to why this is? I apologize if this issue has been discussed else where. d

There are a myriad of different reasons which result in things moving at an excruciatingly slow pace at the government run facility.
