Steam & Excursion > There Is Nothing Wrong With Getting Your Buddy In The Picture!Date: 05/03/16 03:29 There Is Nothing Wrong With Getting Your Buddy In The Picture! Author: LoggerHogger So many times we spend time to make sure there are not stray people in our photos. We really try to keep out anyone who looks like they too are photographing the train we have our camera lens trained on. Maybe we should re-think that approach. This photo shows us why.
The date was Sunday July 7, 1940 and Wil Whittaker and Bill Pennington had started out from their homes in the Bay area to capture the Yosemite Valley Railroad on film. This would be a busy day as the YV was not only running it's daily passenger train behind #25 but there also would be a special Sunday log train run to Incline later in the day. Needless to say Wil and Bill were busy capturing both of these trains in the Merced River Canyon. At one point in the morning while chasing YV #25 and her passenger consist, Wil had the presence of mind to have Bill go down by the river and be filmed as he watched the train pass by. Look how much this simple touch ads to the photo! Well done Wil and Bill. Martin P.S. Good news, both the baggage car and the end observation car in this photo today are in service on the Niles Canyon Ry. Edited 5 time(s). Last edit at 05/03/16 04:50 by LoggerHogger. railbanking! The tourist potential in this day and age would be enormous! Out Date: 05/03/16 09:05 Re: There Is Nothing Wrong With Getting Your Buddy In The Picture Author: Tominde Absolutely agree that people often enhance the scene. Just check the nostalgia page.

BNSF diesel with your friend holding his cell phone? No problem! Your friends in a photo line aa N&W #611 runs by in a public excursion with mixed passenger car liveries and domes? Sure! But.... we may otherwise be more selective! : ) /Mitch Oh - and, great pic! Looked to be a beautiful place to watch, photograph - and, gasp!, even ride trains!
