Steam & Excursion > ATSF 2926 Society Receives $10,000 Candelaria Fund GrantDate: 05/03/16 14:34 ATSF 2926 Society Receives $10,000 Candelaria Fund Grant Author: Cumbresfan It was announced yesterday that the New Mexico Steam Locomotive and RailRoad Historical Society was in receipt of a $10,000 grant from the Candelaria Fund. Dr. Michael Hartshorne, Society President, said the grant will help finish the restoration and pay for initial testing expenses and insurance (which look like they will be "whopping $ amounts").
The Candelaria Fund is a Philanthropy, Voluntarism and Grantmaking Foundation in Little River, California. We sincerely thank the Candelaria Fund and it's President, Mr. Richard Tower, for the grant. Information on the Society and how you can contribute can be found on our home page and How to Help link. http://nmslrhs.org/ http://nmslrhs.org/Help/howtohelp.php Photos: 1. I would have though they would have retained the 8 PL that the loco was built with.

If you have a failure just about anywhere in the country with a 26, a shops nearby will have parts.

When NS shut down their steam program (prior to the 21st Century Steam days), I believe UP came in and bought up all the 8L parts they could get their hands on, because they were getting so scarce. Know at least one steam operator, who tried to buy some 8L parts (and even asked UP if they could buy some from them) and left empty handed.
