Location: Rusk, TX
Status: Full Time Iowa Pacific Holdings, LLC (IPH) is a holding company for a series of freight and passenger railroads across the country, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. We are driven to provide first class service to our customers and develop innovative freight and passenger operations. We are widely recognized as the nation’s premier privately funded passenger rail service provider.The Chief Mechanical Officer is responsible for the mechanical condition of all locomotives, freight cars, shops and equipment used in the process of inspecting, repairing and testing locomotives on the Rusk, Palestine and Pacific Railroad aka Texas State Railroad.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and rebuild steam and diesel locomotives for use on the excursion train
  • Inspect locomotives to ensure repairs are performed properly
  • Work with the General Manager and the Director of Locomotives to maintain Mechanical Department records required by the FRA, EPA and IPH
  • Assist in maintaining the locomotive budget
  • Perform car maintenance and repair functions, including daily and periodic inspections and repair
  • Operate and fire locomotives and utilize proper practices in their operation
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with team members, customers, and management
  • Conduct mechanical training sessions
  • Assure compliance with regulatory agencies and license requirements
  • Collaborate with other members of the management team to ensure an efficient operation
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned
Position Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Vocational school, associates, or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Five (5) years of experience in equipment maintenance supervision
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of FRA procedures and processes
  • Available be able to travel, including holidays
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment and repair
  • Must be able to work any day of week depending on workload and requirements
  • Must also be committed to promoting a safe workplace
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Willing to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to climb inside and outside of equipment, and be able to operate heavy equipment, cranes, forklifts, jacking equipment and specialty equipment
Desired Skills
  • Metal Fabrication and welding experience
  • Manual machinist
  • Steam and diesel experience
Additional Information
  • Applicant must be currently authorized to work permanently in the United States
  • Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check

No but it was related to an individual leaving Texas.

It was owned by the guy in Texas. He sold it, but I'm pretty sure it had little or nothing to do with him moving.

It was stored on IPH property and he no longer worked for them, guess that might have added a bit
to the transaction. I'm a bit surprised that it didn't end up at his new place of employment which has
an appetite for such things.
