Roundhouse Work Session Report for 04.22.2016 Volunteers The following volunteers attended Saturday’s work session:
Work Report This week saw the gridding for the ultrasound test being applied to the outside of the boiler. The firebox area was completed and the boiler barrel was started by Paul, Gordon, and Greg. Rick and Kevin spent the day starting to organize the spare parts, tools, etc. that are stored in the aux tender. Brian ground dime size spots on the throat sheet inside the firebox for the ultrasounds readings. At the moment almost half of the firebox has had the ultrasound testing performed on it. The crown sheet, syphons, door sheet, and combustion chamber remain. Contractor Jason Sobczynski and volunteer Brian machined the seats on five of the wash out plug seats using the portable Mill Hog. The Mill Hog did a fabulous job, and saved tons of hours of labor. Each seat that the Mill Hog cleaned up in 20 seconds would have taken 6 or more hours of time to do by hand. We also featured our first live video on Facebook of a wash out plug seat being machined with the Mill Hog. The reception to this was great, and we plan to do this again in the future.
