Hope they had some propane heaters in at least some of the cars!

Antonito to Chama and no heaters that I know of.

Wow - gotta be a cold 5 or 6 hours. When I crewed for Chama Steam I had propane heaters in the cabooses and strapped down with bungees. Someone was always watching them (more likely staying warm by them) and never a problem. On opening day a couple of years ago 484 (IIRC) with no plow was on the point and got stuck in snow north of Cresco. No heat in the cars - THAT was one cold trip.

I am guessing you are right about it being cold.
