Hey, I was on that train. And I'm a geologist to boot!  (You can tell by my boots). 

Geologists Rock!

Geologists are the salt of the earth!  (We're also the gravel, sand, all that other stuff). 

And remember, geology really IS the world's oldest profession.   Where do you think all those stone tools came from?  All those arrowheads?

We may be beneath you, but nothing is beneath us!

What happened to the track in front of the Depot? The one which, going straight seems to connect with the main... Which has a building in its path now...?

Orient, dbsade,
That track is the original D&RG track to Chama and Durango. It is all standard gauge now but had a third rail back in the day. In the yard between the shop and depot there is a three track display with two standard gauge boxcars for comparison with narrow gauge ones. Just the other side of the highway crossing there is a white sign that says "End of Standard Gauge." I don't know if that was the actual end or if the sign just moved there for illustrative purposes. However, the crossing itself still has(had) three rails (Google street view). The building you see is a tourist information center.
