Returning to the Rails...
Author: FrontRangeTrains

Yesterday, myself and many, many other railfans went trackside to watch Union Pacific 4-8-4 No. 844 lead the "Cheyenne Frontier Days" along Union Pacific's Greeley Subdivision between Denver, Colorado, and Cheyenne, Wyoming.
  • The Cheyenne Frontier Days special rounds the big sweeping curve just north of Platteville along US-HWY 85.
  • Just north of the Colorado-Wyoming border, the Frontier Days special rounds the big curve climbing the grade towards Speer. The train will soon duck under Terry Ranch Road and I-25 up ahead.
  • After dropping off their passengers at the depot in Cheyenne, two standard UP motors, seen on the right, are taking the "Cheyenne Frontier Days" train and will wye it here at Speer for the trip back to Denver later in the evening.
Some more...

  • The sun tries to peek out as the Frontier Days train passes under the C&S bridge as the train departs Cheyenne for Denver.
  • A few railfans gather at a rural grade crossing as the train is about to pass under US-HWY 85 north of Nunn.
  • After checking a brake issue on UP 1989, the Frontier Days special starts up and goes through the town of Eaton.
One more...

  • The Frontier Days train races along at track speed through the small hamlet of Peckham just south of La Salle along US-HWY 85.
Thanks for looking!

Very nice John, thanks for sharing. Your work with the sunflowers continues to amaze. This time you framed the whole train between them. Excellent.

John, you continue to amaze me with your talent to frame the photos in awesome locations. I remember some of my great older friends who had the same talent. Keep up the good work.

Those are beautiful photos, John, and the first one is
simply stunning!  Calendar material, and a definite IOTM!
I know -- TO only does IOTD --  but that one is truly one of'the
very best I have ever seen.  Needs to be printed and famed
and hung on walls.

Thank you very much for posting these beautiful photos here.
