Steam & Excursion > An 844 dinner dateDate: 07/24/16 15:11 An 844 dinner date Author: MaryMcPherson *In the spirit of an earlier photo of an 844 lawn sprinkler*
Several people made comments about "eating crow" if 844 made its Frontier Days date............ Mary McPherson Dongola, IL Diverging Clear Productions Date: 07/24/16 15:13 Re: An 844 dinner date Author: Streamliner I LOVE IT!!!!!!!
Date: 07/24/16 15:14 Re: An 844 dinner date Author: MaryMcPherson In hindsight, maybe I shoulda Photoshopped that into the gangway of the locomotive. The best ideas often miss the deadline.

I'm holding out for the full 1472-days... Then, I'll take up my crow eating utensils... For a reliable engine & crew the 765 boys win the Gold Medal... There's a record to chase... The U.P. Current-crew makes one trip, and all of a sudden they're out of the woods? As they say on Wall St., ...One data point does not make a tend.. W. Date: 07/24/16 15:32 Re: An 844 dinner date Author: Margaret_SP_fan I, too, am dining on some nice tasty crow right now.
But it still needs that essentia sauce of continuing excellent care and operation, with top priority given to cotimuing safe operation and to top-notch work, including proper water treatment and blowdowns and boiler washes. I very much hope that that crow I am enjoying right now does not disapper if later events show that the 844 is not being properly cared for and operated. Until thern, I gotta admit, that this crow is pretty darn tasty! Glad to have a good reason for this dinner date! <G> (My dinner date with this particular crow was arranged because I was almost positive the poor 844 wolud not be able to run at all. Yes, as scientists know, one data point is not enuogh to prove anything, But that s not what mde this dinner date happen.) But it's a silly image, and THAT'S the point. Mary McPherson Dongola, IL Diverging Clear Productions Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/24/16 15:34 by MaryMcPherson. One trip up and back does not show any lessons learned or new refined abilities. Even a total mental case can take a brand new car off the lot and make it a few blocks before wrecking it. And its more than 1472 days, its trip after trip to see what happens. Not running the 844 because they are too tied up on rebuilding the 4014 is NOT an excuse either, later on.

The shop has done better coincidentally with the arrival of the Director Scott George. I'm betting he runs the show now way more then people realize.

Mary, your sense of humor is PRICELESS! (I can't wait for chapter #3... ;^) Lance/199 Date: 07/25/16 18:09 Re: An 844 dinner date Author: cchan006 ProAmtrak Wrote:

Hate the reports about the > Challenger! You gotta stop worrying about the Loonies! The knowledge gap is SO LARGE between them and the contributing members here on TO that it's really no comparison. Don't drag us down to their level. :-) I suspect there will be no more free advice from past UP Steam crew and their friends regarding the 4014. The frustration and snarkiness regarding the UP 844 came from their emotional attachment to the UP 844, so it's obvious they were mad about it being out of action, yet was passionate enough to give out free advice on how to operate it properly. (Translation for dummies: I'm saying between the lines that despite acting like "haters," they were actually rooting for the UP 844, but not at the senior manager who was pretending to be doing his job) They have no such stake with the UP 4014. There's no "never retired steam locomotive" streak to save here. UP Steam Program is no longer in danger of being terminated because the UP 844 is "back." If any of the "Loonies" are reading this, it's time for them to ponder all the events from 2012 and put it into perspective, if they got the brains. They might feel less betrayed later on. |
