Steam & Excursion > Grand Canyon Railway's Steam Double HeaderDate: 08/28/16 19:12 Grand Canyon Railway's Steam Double Header Author: slug96 To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Park Services across the United States, the Grand Canyon Railway ran both of their steam engines, double headed, to Grand Canyon National Park, on Saturday, 27th of August. Here are some of the photos from the trip to and from the Grand Canyon.
Thanks for looking! Date: 08/28/16 19:34 Re: Grand Canyon Railway's Steam Double Header Author: kennbritt Very nice. I was on 4960 trips as a kid in Omaha circa 1962. Thank you for posting these.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of National Parks, I ate some McDonald fries. I figured if Grand Canyon is running steam for the celebration and they burn used cooking oil, I could do my part to help fuel the locomotives. Yeah, give the "Enviomentalists" some more ammunition why don't you. Idiots... Date: 08/29/16 07:46 Re: Grand Canyon Railway's Steam Double Header Author: HotWater PHall Wrote:

Idiots... Putting a little "color" to the exhaust is one thing, but that doesn't look right to me. Date: 08/29/16 10:54 Re: Grand Canyon Railway's Steam Double Header Author: ATSF1129 HotWater Wrote:

The last two shots are on climbs, with the last one being of the train coming from a dead stop at the bottom of the grade at Quivero to pick up the cowboys. In addition, I always saw four or five people in the cab during my visit earlier in the week, so I'd go out on a limb and say they're training new people to fire and the learning curve that comes with it and a new (to them) locomotive. They are very pretty but there is an oddness that reminds me of when you buy a postcard and it's not quite the same as a photo of the same subject would be.

Idiots... OK, pardner, hold your horses. Environmentalists have much bigger fish to fry (the oil of which can be used to power the Grand Canyon Railway's steam locomotives).
