Grand Canyon Railway's Steam Double Header
Author: slug96

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Park Services across the United States, the Grand Canyon Railway ran both of their steam engines, double headed, to Grand Canyon National Park, on Saturday, 27th of August. Here are some of the photos from the trip to and from the Grand Canyon.

Thanks for looking!

Very nice.  I was on 4960 trips as a kid in Omaha circa 1962.  Thank you for posting these.

Awesome shots, I think there is an IOTD in there somewhere. Thanks for posting.

WOW!   Nice work.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of National Parks, I ate some McDonald fries.   I figured if Grand Canyon is running steam for the celebration and they burn used cooking oil, I could do my part to help fuel the locomotives.

Excellent. Noted it's only a generator for HEP? behind the locos. Not the dreded diesel.

Nice shots. Great to see that Phil Anschutz supported getting 29 back in service. Here's hoping he permits Eric to continue running both engines throughout the year.

Super photos!!!!      Why is 29 smoking so much, as compared to 4960?

#29 gets her used oil from Mickey D's and the #4960 gets her oil from a fine restaurant.  Ha!

Steam double-header to celebrate the 100th Anniversiery of the National Park Service and they decide to smoke it up like that.
Yeah, give the "Enviomentalists" some more ammunition why don't you. Idiots...

Putting a little "color" to the exhaust is one thing, but that doesn't look right to me.

The last two shots are on climbs, with the last one being of the train coming from a dead stop at the bottom of the grade at Quivero to pick up the cowboys. In addition, I always saw four or five people in the cab during my visit earlier in the week, so I'd go out on a limb and say they're training new people to fire and the learning curve that comes with it and a new (to them) locomotive.

I take it that these are HDR?  They are very pretty but there is an oddness that reminds me of when you buy a postcard and it's not quite the same as a photo of the same subject would be.

It's good to see steam double heading at the Grand Canyon once again.  Nice photos.

OK, pardner, hold your horses.  Environmentalists have much bigger fish to fry (the oil of which can be used to power the Grand Canyon Railway's steam locomotives).

Great shots!  Love the color of the greens, the nice sky in your 3rd shot, and I like how you processed the photos just right so that the small details really pop out and don't get lost in shadow.
