The Maryland Scenic Railroad has the C&O 1309 under restoration.  This is a big job.
How many other steam engines do you know of that are under restoration?

OR&N 197 in Portland, the Skookum at the Oregon Coast Scenic RR, Reading 2100 and 2102 back east, UP 4014 in Cheyenne, NP 924 at Snoqualmie, just to name a few off the top of my head. Undoubtedly there are dozens more out there that are under way.

1. American Steam Railroad is close to doing a hydro on Reading T-1 4-8-4 No.2100.
2. Reading and Northern is working on their Reading T-1 4-8-4 No.2102.
3. NMRLHS is very close to a hydro on ATSF 4-8-4 No. 2926
4. Steamtown is working on B&M 4-6-2 No. 3713.
5. Lake Superior RR Museum is wrapping up work on D&NE 2-8-0 No.28.
6. Austin Steam Train Association is putting their SP Mk-5 Mike No.786 back together. Boiler is done, running gear is current major task.
7. SP&S 700 is at the start of its 1472 day inspection. Probably another 1 to 2 years.
8. KSCO has started work on C&O 2-8-4 No.2716.
8.NESCO just moved Maine Central 4-6-2 No. 470 and started work on it.

I'm sure there are many more but this is a start, lol.

Nevada Northern #81 is the beginning stages, and last I heard the plan is to have her in steam by the end of 2017 before 93 goes out of service for her 1472.

Heber Valley Railroad in UT has been working on the ex-UP 618 and ex-Great Western 75 but I haven't heard anything lately on the progress.

The SPNG #18 in Independence, CA is completed and will do the first steam up in October.

Western Pacific 165 just hit a big milestone with the tender tank being reunited with the frame and the cab steel being completed.  Her restoration keeps moving along.

Next up: TUBES!

And she'll be getting some paint and a new cab interior.

Errr, that's a PRR K4s, located in Strasburg, Pa. At the Pennsylvania State RR museum.
I am not familiar with any work, other than 'cosmetic', being done on this engine.

Anybody have an update about returning this engine to service?

What about the SP. 2479 in San Jose which has been a work in progress  since 1983?

Wilmington and Western is working on their ex-Atlanta, Birmingham and Atlantic 0-6-0 #58. Taken out of service for its 15 year in November of 2013.

It was first placed into service on the W&W in the fall of 1998.

NN 93 should be at 15 years at the beginning of 2017 since it the same 15 year period it ran under during the 2002 winter games.

UP 618 isn't too far off, but the daily work of running a tourist line often gets in the way. The 75 is about half done but will be finished after 618.

M&NF 12 and LS&I 33 are under restoration at Age Of Steam Roundhouse in Sugarcreek, Ohio.

I read somewhere that 169 in Alamosa is slowly being restored, too, but I don't remember the source and I can't seem to find it again.
