This Engine Got Around But Still She Should Not Be Found Here!
Author: LoggerHogger

Certain steam locomotives were known as "boomers" because they did not stay put on any one railroad for long before moving onto a new job with a new railroad.  The 2-6-0 we see here was just such an engine.

Built by Baldwin in 1913 she had been ordered by the famous Ocean Shore Railroad that ran south out of San Francisco.  She was #21 on the Ocean Shore.  After a few years there she was sold to the Pacific Lumber Co. of Scotia, California.  She was owned by TPL and numbered #34 when this photo of her was taken in 1937.  While she is owned by TPL when this photo was snapped, she is not on TPL track,  Instead, she is on the Northwestern Pacific in Eureka, CA during a period when she was leased by that railroad.

In 1942 she was sold by TPL to the Red River Lumber Co. of Westwood, CA and she ran there as #34 until that line sold out to the Fruit Growers Supply Co. who later re-numbered her to #1 for that line.

By 1953 her wandering days were over and no new buyers came along when FGS shut down their railroad operations in Westwood.  Unfortunately, her last owner was the same as so many other engines had, namely the scrapper.

Thank you Martin. I didn't know this former Ocean Shore locomotive once worked on the NWP.
