Chasing 3751 over Antelope Valley Line
Author: PeaBock619

Here are a few photos I took of 3751 heading to LA. It was real worth it going up north to see 3751 run again.

Just out of curiosity, how fast can you go backwayds with a steam engine?

"...over Antelope Valley?"  No. 3751 never made it to the Antelope Valley on this trip.

This Metrolink line is the Antelope Valley line so adding "line" to the title would fix this up.

Yes, but at least it is traveling, and you folks out there are lucky to have this locomotive in operation at all.  Think about all of us stuck here in the Baltimore area who have not had any main line steam engines running here since 1981.  CSX will not allow any steam, nor will they allow any excursion trains to run from here, and we have Amtrak and the busy high speed North-East Corridor which does not allow steam engines.  That's all we have folks.

Who do they use for an engine crew on the 3751?

Hey Union Pacific, take note... A railroad that embraces steam from a predecessor railroad!!

The members of the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society were operating the 3751 during the trip.

So, was this Santa Fe 3751 from the Amtrak yards running with BNSF power on Union Pacific trackage for a Metrolink ceremony?

You make it seem like Baltimore is singled out for not having any main line steam, when, in fact, there are plenty of North American cities which have not had any main line steam in many years such as Boston, New York City, Newark, Trenton, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Miami, New Orleans, Rochester NY, Cincinnati, Columbus OH, Madison WI, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto.  Last time there was mainline steam in San Francisco was 2003, but I don't see that ever coming back either.

Yup. I thought it was going to be a Metrolink train with the new F125, but NO they had to use the leased BNSF leased power, which in my opinion, should have never been leased. sheesh.

The BNSF power was leased for the sole purpose of saving face for the MTA Board.
They had already said how "dangerous" the new Cab Cars and the old Bomb cars were and had to do something.
