Steam & Excursion > PRR M1 classDate: 01/06/17 10:28 PRR M1 class Author: m1bprr The Pennsylvania Railroad M1 - M1a - M1b class, my all time favorite PRR steam locomotive seen here at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in 2001 when she looked good.
As a young teen I had the opportunity to photograph them in the last couple of years in service. Ed K. Date: 01/06/17 10:31 Re: PRR M1 class Author: m1bprr Date: 01/06/17 15:27 Re: PRR M1 class Author: flyingfred That is a huge tender!!
-Fred- Date: 01/06/17 15:59 Re: PRR M1 class Author: Tominde Nice. Any recent shots. How does it look 15 years later at RRMPA
Date: 01/06/17 16:13 Re: PRR M1 class Author: nycman I had the same comment as Flying Fred. Ed, do you know the coal/water capacity of those tenders?
Date: 01/06/17 16:27 Re: PRR M1 class Author: gbmott Here is a shot from 2010 with boiler jacket (and asbestos lagging) removed. I'm sure it looks no better now. I by chance spoke with the head of restoration at the time and expressed a wish that the M1 would be restored, at least cosmetically. He agreed, but said that nothing would happen until the roundhouse was completed so that, when any artifacts are restored, they will have a protected place to be displayed. I can't argue with that and only hope that they get the necessary funding and that the roundhouse is completed in the near future.
PRR 6755 is just one of several 4-8-2's that would make wonderful mainline excursion locomotives (he says as in a dream), including NYC 3001, IC 2500 or 2542, and of course a return to service of SLSF 1522. . . . . . Gordon Date: 01/06/17 16:41 Re: PRR M1 class Author: m1bprr Tominde Wrote:

Andy Date: 01/06/17 23:17 Re: PRR M1 class Author: JimBaker Where are the Main Rods ?
I know on the Tender !! James R.(Jim) Baker Whittier, CA Date: 01/07/17 11:15 Re: PRR M1 class Author: kurt765 I really wish this, the largest surviving Pennsy engine, will be restored one day.
Date: 01/07/17 13:00 Re: PRR M1 class Author: exopr The museum is raising money to help fund the new roundhouse that will give the M1 a badly needed shelter. You can donate here:

Date: 01/07/17 16:57 Re: PRR M1 class Author: wcamp1472 You'll see thr T-1 running, first!
Or, maybe the 1361, first The M1 is now a permanent museum artifact. Never to be under steam again. W. Date: 01/07/17 17:11 Re: PRR M1 class Author: choodude raytc1944 Wrote:

So Great Britain, a country about 1/3 the size of Texas, can build new main line steam engines and the USA can not? If we were doing as well as they are, we could be building 50 or 100 new engines. If we beg real nice do you think they might take us back? Brian Date: 01/08/17 07:38 Re: PRR M1 class Author: puddlejumper nycman Wrote:

I believe it is either 210P75 (21000 gallons, 31 tons coal?) or 250P75 (25000 gallons 25 tons coal?) Posted from Android Date: 01/08/17 14:25 Re: PRR M1 class Author: nycman Thank you, puddle jumper.

This is the case with so many railroad museums big and small.
