Steam & Excursion > UP 6936 7-14-1992 WB, Swift Night Departure!, Winnemucca,Nev.Date: 01/14/17 07:23 UP 6936 7-14-1992 WB, Swift Night Departure!, Winnemucca,Nev. Author: RailRat I put this one in "Steam" category because 6936 is part of the UP Heritage fleet, And it followed, then passed the 3985 in Elko,Nev. on this day, Symbol ICBOA headed to Oakland,Calif. There were thunderstorms threatening all day in Northern Nevada, But were really going strong west of Winnemucca that night,Plus a Full Moon to Boot!..some of the lightning from the West is barely seen, reflected off the 6936 and Winnemucca Depot area, with camera pointed East, then Very Obviouse after 6936 Departs, and camera ponting West. After a crew change, I think the engineer hits run 8 at Depature!..I heard this train was delayed at Gerlach,Nev. that night, due to a bridge washout or flooding west of Gerlach. I will post more of 3985 and 6936 from this day of shooting when time allows!

One nit to pick however; trains "Depart", while aircraft "take off". Date: 01/14/17 07:55 Re: UP 6936 7-14-1992 WB, Night Takeoff, Winnemucca,Nev. Author: RailRat HotWater Wrote:

Your right,Look at Title/text Again!, Changed words "Takeoff" to "Departure", Now its time for me to "Depart" to bed!..And Thanks! That old girl will flat out fly. Even with high speed gearing, it would out perform any other pair we would couple up to a biz car train.

Author: RailRat This has always been my favorite diesel, since I was a kid!, used to see them roaring by at RR xing, on my way to school in Southern California in the 1960's. Notice the horn on 6936 has unique sound to it?..Have more video of this one too from various trips in 1990's, In Idaho/Nevada, will post when time!

Tom Date: 01/15/17 03:43 Re: UP 6936 7-14-1992 WB, Swift Night Departure!, Winnemucca,Nev. Author: RailRat I tried to to change Subject title to read: "Double Hustle Muscle" Night Departure, but too late I guess!..I do recall a photo of Centennial diesel Demo or something with that moniker, (w/o "Double") or maybe it was of an SD45?..anyway the late 1960's were all about Horsepower in the car buisiness, and kind of flowed over into the transportation industry as well!

Having run DD40's during my career on the road, I like the DD40 but my all time favorite sounds emanate from the E's. Though they are now 645's roots blown they still produce a sound not unlike that of the old 567's which are like a heart beat to me. Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY |
