Steam & Excursion > SP 4449 on a break in run on train 229

Its 1955 and GS4 4449 has gone to sacramento for a tune up and is working here way back to oakland on a short two car Train 229...This was common practice for steam power which handled passenger traffic to get the 229 treatment, today, its nice and wet and passengers are boarding the train for the trip to Oakland....In 4449's lfe time, she has handled all sorts of traffic.....

I grew up in Martinez, infact that is my parents house on the hill to the right, just below the train order signal. They still live there today and on visits I still can enjoy a wonderful panoramic views of the old Espee from the curve before Port Costa, the yard at Ozol, both the old SP depot and new Amtrak depot, all the way to the bridge over the Carquinez Straight into Benicia. Speaking of Benicia, also visable from their house, almost directly out across the Straight, is the old Benicia terminal where the ferry once crossed.
