Steam & Excursion > SP's P-8's were still very useful

Its August 19 1955 and P-8 2463 is in command of trah 226 witha three car consist, 226 has just made a station stop in Martinez and is onher way to suisun-fairfield as the next stop. SP made good use of the 4-6-2's, when they were not called for passenger duty, they went into freight and if they were in tracy, there was a good chance they would work as a helper.
During the growing season, if you were hanging around Livermore, you would some times see a pacific on a 10 or 15 car fruit  train of express reffers...

Good looking engine and train.

....one could recreate that sort of consist on the Niles Canyon line.  But that too seems to have passed.  Thanks Barstool, your pix are a great "way back" machine.

JB, Not if Niles gets  their same type of engine back from the CSRM.

I sure hope that happens.  I spent a lot of time watching the 2467 come back to life on the OT (I was working on the PV Tamalpais next door) and for all the hard work that went into her she deserves a better fate than sitting cold at the CSRM.
