D&SNG 481, Feb. 1982

Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge RR purchased 2-8-2 481 in March 1981. She was built by Baldwin in 1925. She was simmering at the original Denver & Rio Grande Western roundhouse in Durango, CO, on Feb. 13, 1982.

Valentine's Day 1982 found Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge 2-8-2 481 on the turntable looking at D&SNG 478. Where else could you experience narrow gauge steam in its element? I just wish I could have captured the scent and sounds that evening.

The air is brisk and D&SNG 481 is hot. The 1925 built steamer was poking out of the original roundhouse that has since burned down and been rebuilt.
