Jim's shot was taken at the west end of Espee's yard in Sparks, Nevada, with John Ascuagua's NUGGET hotel tower being the prominent building in the background.

Would be interested in the year the photo was taken, Jim, so will take a wild guess at it. Since the 9000 series SD45s were all long gone by 1989 or so, am going to say the photo was taken in 1985. How'd I do?

Great shot, by the way...

hmm, with the amount of grime on the four units and plated over class lights of the trailing second T-2 unit I'd even gamble a little later like '86 or '87. Great shot BTW Jim! That sums up the SP, an oopsie and a worked 20 cylinder beast passing by...

Interestingly, the SP9017 lives on today on the right coast as rebuilt SD40M-2 CSXT8476 but minus the flares and the good looking body...

I don't think that this is the best way to unload a tank car, even if the hole in the manway is bigger:>)

Espeeboy is right on da money.. if you do a "save_as" on the photo, the photo date that Jim wrote says 1/27/1986. so there.

Nice Photo indeed Jim! Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Harry

well on da money by only 27 days. Now that I think about it, by 1987 these last 45's were faded and worked to the point of no-rebuild (at least by the SP who moved on to SD45T-2's in their GRIP II program)

yeah yeah, sticky keys. would have been cool if the rebuilds were given a weird model designation a la Airbus airplane model style like SD46T-2 or SD44T-2. They did it with the derated SD44R SP7399...
