Cool Santa Fe hookup

Was going thru collection and found this slide of B36-7 7489 leading GP-50 3837, GP-40X's 3806 & 3809, and another GP-50 Eastbound through Joliet IL in April of 86. Note the baffles on 7489. Which is the most rare here? Dan

Looks like someone had a squad of Marines (Semper Fi!) clean those units with a toothbrush! Wow! Company photo anyone? those were the days.

What are the two blue panels on the back of the long hood of the first engine?
One below the railing and one above.

Those were the sound baffles Dan mentioned in his original post. GE added them to the B36-7's to block the sound of the radiator fan, and thereby hopefully comply with new EPA noise restrictions that went into effect around 1980 (the fat silencer stacks were another symptom). The baffles were eventually removed in the mid-80's, but I don't know what changed to allow their removal.
