Nostalgia & History > Cool Santa Fe hookupDate: 01/25/06 23:40 Cool Santa Fe hookup Author: dt8089 Was going thru collection and found this slide of B36-7 7489 leading GP-50 3837, GP-40X's 3806 & 3809, and another GP-50 Eastbound through Joliet IL in April of 86. Note the baffles on 7489. Which is the most rare here? Dan

One below the railing and one above. Mark Date: 01/26/06 22:18 Re: Cool Santa Fe hookup Author: Evan_Werkema C44-9W Wrote:

GE added them to the B36-7's to block the sound of the radiator fan, and thereby hopefully comply with new EPA noise restrictions that went into effect around 1980 (the fat silencer stacks were another symptom). The baffles were eventually removed in the mid-80's, but I don't know what changed to allow their removal. |
