The second and third shots are before and after repainting of the 480. The first from September '75 and the second from January '78. Date: 03/19/06 09:47 Re: Time for some WP cabeese. Author: shtinkypuppie Cool pictures, but I must ask... why, in the first picture, does the signal and rear coupler look blue-green?

I seem to remember someone mentioning that the Western Pacific painted all the signal devices a light green of some sort. I searched for the thread, but couldn't find it. It's not the coupler but the pot signal for the siding in the foreground, that's green. WP painted all their signals green.-BMT Date: 03/19/06 10:03 Re: Time for some WP cabeese. Author: zephyrus In the 1970's, WP used a jade green paint on many of its signals and wayside buildings. It was a...unique look and very different from any other railroad.
The story I heard is that WP somehow ended up with a car full of this paint and decided to use it. Not sure if that's true or not. Z Date: 03/19/06 10:38 Re: Time for some WP cabeese. Author: 4merroad4man I'm willing to bet that was an Al Perlman directive. We joked that the jade green should be called Perlman Green.

WP stock was down to $8 a share when he arrived and his legacy is the mighty WP-UP-SP merger.
