Southern's 4501-A real trooper!
Author: Frisco1522

Good Lord, can it be almost 36 years since I took these?
This was a trip out of St. Louis and was headed east to Louisville on June 22-1970. This shot was taken off of the highway 460 overpass near Belleville, IL and the old girl was really talking it up as this is the grade up out of the Mississippi River bottoms to a higher level at Belleville. Some years later, the 1522 would rattle the same bridge on a pair of Centralia, IL turns.
The second shot was taken as she left Centralia, IL heading east toward her destination, which I think was Princeton, IN, where she would overnight.
Third shot was arriving in Princeton, passing the L&N depot and the mob waiting to see her.

For some reason, I'm not having any luck posting the 2nd and third images, so will try it this way. I didn't exceed the size limit, but I must be doing something wrong.

Just one more and then you can get back to your SP dismal photos.
This was the day before and she was heading back to St. Louis after turning the train at Centralia. Hwy 161 paralleled the Southern for quite a few miles and watching some of the chasers on a two lane country highway was at times verrrry eenteresting to say the least.

Thanks for those. Is that Kodachrome? It sure held up well. Wish the old girl was out running again.

Yes, it's Kodachrome 64 and scanned on a Minolta Dimage Elite 5400II. No Photoshopping used on any of them yet. I still can't believe it was that long ago. Good grief!!! I guess I need to dig out my T&P 610 stuff on the SR.

Those were great. 4501 was always one of my favorites.

Thanks for the memories. While chasing her from Chicago to Bureau IL on the Rock Island a fellow fan refered to her as the "Green Whore". I asked him why he called her that and he said it was because she went everywhere.:-) Dan
