Nostalgia & History > time for a Milwaukee Road breakDate: 06/24/06 20:53 time for a Milwaukee Road break Author: alco636 All photos by Leon Weitgenant, St. Paul, MN 1984.
#1 SD40-2 201 looks sharp in the new Hiawatha scheme. #2 GP40 2020 looks a bit faded. Those who have an eye for detail may notice the odd number board locations about the 2020's windshields. Apparently the 2020 was in a wreck, and rebuilt by the Milwaukee. #3 The 205 looks great in the sun, and pretty fresh orange paint. Date: 06/24/06 20:57 Re: time for a Milwaukee Road break Author: alco636 #1 The 190 looks good in the sunlight.
#2 The 207, and GP20 972 (a GP9 rebuild) show off their billboard nose lettering. #3 The 2063, 2027, and others get a bath as an employee looks on. Check out that classic Milwaukee Road switch stand he is standing next to. Date: 06/25/06 00:30 Re: time for a Milwaukee Road break Author: Hiroshi Thank you, alco636 for sharing photos of Milw Road units!
More photos please! Best Regards, Hiroshi Date: 06/25/06 08:17 Re: time for a Milwaukee Road break Author: alco636 You're welcome Hiroshi. Here are some more from my friend Leon Weitgenant.
#1 GP40 2011 looks great in the new Hiawatha scheme. #2 SDL39 590 is ahead of the 2011. #3 Caboose 992219 makes up the end of a westbound. The train looks to be south of Winona, MN along the Mississippi River. Date: 06/25/06 08:21 Re: time for a Milwaukee Road break Author: alco636 #1 A classic trainorders shot. I believe the location is Grand Crossing, near La Crosse, WI.
#2 GP20 969 leads three other GP20s past the St. Paul Amtrak depot. #3 Hopper 95587 has a fresh paint job, but it I doubt it will be around much longer after this photo was shot. Date: 06/25/06 17:16 Re: time for a Milwaukee Road break Author: Hiroshi alco636 Wrote:

Wow! Thank you for posting photos! Great Shots! Hiroshi Date: 06/25/06 17:28 Re: time for a Milwaukee Road break Author: tracktime Awesome stuff! Thanks for sharing these with us, Al!
Cheers, Harry Date: 06/26/06 17:40 Re: time for a Milwaukee Road break Author: Pinecliffe I know it's a tall order, but do you by chance have a picture of the Milwaukee GP9 321? It was the first engine I ever rode in as an 8 year old and I haven't been able to find a picture. Of course, in 1972, it was an everyday sight on the branch lines in Minnesota.
Date: 06/27/06 14:20 Re: time for a Milwaukee Road break Author: alco636 Sorry to say, but I don't have any images of the 321.
Date: 06/30/06 16:13 Re: time for a Milwaukee Road break Author: Pinecliffe Thanks for looking! I have one picture and I'm sure I will eventually find more. Ironically, I have more pictures of it in its current paint scheme on the DAIR.

Not only lots of joints, but most of those were compromise joints - that section of track was kept together with whatever they had lying around! -John Date: 03/01/15 04:10 Re: time for a Milwaukee Road break Author: LarryDoyle alco636 Wrote:

Al, I think that's farther north, along Lake Pepin between Wabasha and Red Wing. Great pics - thanks for posting. Can't get enough Milwaukee to feed my habit. -John Date: 03/01/15 15:15 Re: time for a Milwaukee Road break Author: alco636 You are correct. Thank you very much!
