Nostalgia & History > METRA F40C Leaving Chicago June 1981Date: 09/26/06 01:22 METRA F40C Leaving Chicago June 1981 Author: drew1946 I know it is an F40C assigned to the lines going North out of Chicago to Milwaukee and it is pulling out of Union Station. Beyond that I claim no expertise other than I took it in June of 1981.

The line to Elgin was the Milwaukee Road's Dubuque & Iowa Division. The line to Fox Lake was a combination of the Chicago & Milwaukee Division to Rondout and the Janesville line to Fox Lake. Also, the Metra name did not happen until 1984 when the Regional Transportation Authority adopted it for its rail lines. RTA also overseens the Chicago Transit Authority and the suburban bus system PACE.
