RDG Trainmasters

Always been partial to the Reading's FM Trainmasters as I had my first ever cab ride in #803 when it was just a week old. The locomotive was used to push a coal train powered by an A-B-A set of F7's up the Locust Summit grade from Gordon to Locust Summit, Pa in 1953. Can still hear the purrr of 2400 horses.

They were huge, cumbersome, ugly locomotives but FM sure sold a lot of them. Just goes to show you, looks ain't everything.

I'll take the design over a lot of modern stuff.

Loved watching them in Philly-Bethlehem passenger service. And also the once in a while CNJ Trainmaster.
