they smoked much like an ALCO.As far as the crewmen go very cramped cab,as the had dual cab controls,bad heaters.Had they not cancelled the order for GP38-2s in 1972 UP would possibly still be running them. As most fans know the U23s were traded in to GE shortly after the UP merger,and were rebuilt into Super7s stll equipped with blomberg-trucks. Did you know, at one point WP put out instructions, if possible, to only use EMD as lead units! I still remember the hard transitions a consist of GEs would make.
