Nostalgia & History > NYC PowerDate: 12/19/06 08:04 NYC Power Author: yardclerk A gentleman named Paul McGrane posted some really excellent pix of New York Central first generation power from his collection on the ABPR newsgroup today.
1. ALCo FA 1077 and Baldwin "Babyface 3800 at North Bergen NJ in June 1954. 2. Baldwin "Babyface" 3803 River Rouge MI in April 1961. 3. Baldwin "Sharknose" 3808 in Illinois inFebruary 1961. Date: 12/19/06 08:08 Re: NYC Power Author: yardclerk last two pictures.
4. EMD E7 4025 at Chicago Il in October 1961. 5. EMD E7 4028 also at Chicago Il September 1965. Notice that the 4028 is on a freight train. Did the NYC use the E units in freight service very much? >Did the NYC use the E units in freight service very much? Actually, that's a mail and express train. Nice photos! Thanks. RL Cabin Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/19/06 08:23 by RLcabin. Date: 12/19/06 08:42 Re: NYC Power Author: OscarManheim >
> 4. EMD E7 4025 at Chicago Il in October 1961. Great shots! By the way, did the actual location or signal shown in picture 4 (Chicago) have a particular name? I realize that its just "south" of LaSalle St. Station near Roosevelt Rd., but have not been able to find a proper location name to confirm - possibly a cross-street number? The Rock Island also had a couple service tracks here during the steam days. Of course, the Lifshultz and freight buildings in the background have since been demolished, and in the picture, it looks like they are no longer used. Interesting stuff, and thanks for sharing... Date: 12/19/06 10:27 Re: NYC Power Author: HB90MACH I thought only CNJ had Baby faces. How many other roads had those?
Date: 12/19/06 10:59 Re: NYC Power Author: pwh E7 4028 looks like its leading a mail/express train with Flexi Van containers in the consist. The use of E units on mail/express was common. All nice photos thanks for posting them.

Date: 12/19/06 15:34 Re: NYC Power Author: nycman Thank you for posting those. Pretty rare, color shots from back then.
Date: 12/19/06 18:32 Re: NYC Power Author: CNW Nice vintage color photos!
On the second photo of 3803, do I see a pair of EMD exhaust stacks on the roof? The Second Diesel Spotters Guide confirms it. It lists NYC 3803 repowered with an EMD 16-567 in 1956 by the NYC. Dennis Date: 12/20/06 22:08 Re: NYC Power Author: Clarence There's a rumor that the Anthracite RR Historical Society is going to make resin shells for these. You supply the chassis.
And it's news to me too that somebody besides CNJ had them. Clarence PoconoFlyer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Geez ... I wish someone would make a good, > affordable model of those Babyfaces! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/20/06 22:09 by Clarence. |
