Nostalgia & History > Did Rio Grande F and GP/SD units ever meet?Date: 01/26/07 21:17 Did Rio Grande F and GP/SD units ever meet? Author: NH2006 I don't think I've ever seen mixed power with F units and GP/SD units on the Rio Grande, though SP6190 has lots and lots of BN and SP mixes:

Author: highgreengraphics Oh, yeah, well before my time, but long lines of mixed F's, geeps and SD's were standard fare for helper sets out of Minturn, CO, and a Geep was added in the middle of F-unit sets to form the "Perlman Mallet" arrangement to speed up schedules. Many pics in Rio Grande books, certainly must be some floating around TO members. - - JLH

Wow, That is one clean GP40! Date: 09/02/14 12:29 Re: Did Rio Grande F and GP/SD units ever meet? Author: Seventyfive I rode the Zeph in 1974 Denver to SLC and the lead motor was a GP30, and the rest of the consist had the usual motors. The regular F 5771 must have been in the shop. If you google "drgw 5771" a bunch of photos will come up as 'images of drgw 5771'; one of them shows the 5771 with an FB and a black GP.
