Test Run on the Santa Fe
Author: SP6190

In late 1966, Santa Fe ran a test train consisting of three GE U28CG passenger engines and 19 piggyback cars from LA’s Hobart Yard to Chicago. Although this test did not break any speed records (it took 61 hours to cover the distance), it did lead to the introduction of the “Super C” on January 17, 1968, which would scheduled to cover the distance in 40 hours.

#1 Here we have the power, the 359, 350, and 351 waiting for the final loads to be added to their train.

Excellent documentation of the direct predecessor to the Super C. Considering it took 60 hours to go from LA to Chicago, we can call this the "Lazy B" instead of the "Super C" eh? <grin>

In either event I'm sure those U28CGs sounded fantastic barking up Cajon!

Cheers,
Harry

Hmmm, Warbonnet GE hood units on a pig train. Predecessor to SuperFleet?
