When N&W merged with Wabash and Nickel Plate Road, the Wabash units got a "3" prefix on the numbers (GP35 540 became N&W 3540) and NKP got a "2" prefix (GP35 910 became 2910).

In this case, the Geep is the former NKP 549.

In photo #3 How many times have you been a train moving with all the traps open?

For your info SR GP30 2594 was just recently acquired by the TVRM in Chattanooga to be restored back to its original SR paint. It had served in recent years on the Hartwell in north Georgia.

That train is inbound to the station, probably Union (I'm not sure which one N&W used). You can see the lift bridge over the Chicago River in the background. I'd guess this was taken from Roosevelt Rd (12th Street) and that this is a commuter train from the SW suburbs.

That's the year when Southern retired its SD24's, and the unit might have already been off the Southern roster by then.
