C&NW GP50 at West Chicago-1990
Author: Gateway97

During a 1990 trip to Chi-town to catch the last of the BN E-units in commuter service, my brother and I wandered up to West Chicago to catch the action on a railroad we had not been able to spend much time along. We only spent a couple hours there, but were rewarded with a parade of trains. First photo is a GP50-SD40-2 lashup. Second is a freight led by GP7's passing another. We couldn't quite believe still seeing GP7's on the main in 1990 on a class 1. (I think FEC still had some running then also).

Nice to see some CNW. However, that second shot with CNW 4130 looks like the IHB at East Avenue and 47th Street in LaGrange.

Those GP9's laster into the 2000's. They were last used as switchers at Cal Ave Coach yard, mandling the metra equipment between M-19A, Cal Ave and Chicago Passenger Terminal. I think they finally retired them areound 2001 or 2002.
