Gilpin Tramway Locomotive
Author: flynn

SR-RL_Nr_10 is correct. Picture 1 on my posting Railroad Dome is not of Gilpin Tramway shay locomotive no. 1.

After reading SR-RL_Nr_10’s reply to my posting I did a Keyword search on the Denver Public Library digital website, http://history.denverlibrary.org , for Gilpin Tramway Locomotive and got 23 items.

The text to item number 18 of the Keyword search much better fits Picture 1 on my posting Railroad Dome. The two texts and the two photos have been mixed up. Below I have put the text from item 18 of my Keyword search for Gilpin Tramway with the photo from Picture 1 on my posting Railroad Dome. The text and photo fit together with such statements as “The engineer and fireman stand in the door of the locomotive. A well dressed man in a suit, tie and hat sits on the edge of the coal filled tender.”

Picture 1, “Call Number CHS.X9533. Title: Gilpin Tramway work train. Summary: View of a Gilpin Tramway Company work train led by locomotive no. 4. Lettering on the locomotive reads: ‘G. 4 T.’ and ‘4.’ The engineer and fireman stand in the door and window of the locomotive. A well dressed man in a suit, tie and hat, sits on the edge of the coal filled tender. Workmen stand on the front of the locomotive and sit and stand on two flat cars loaded with large rocks or boulders. A work car with a canvas side and chimney is on the end of the train. Date: 1908. Penciled on negative envelope: Ronzio Coll. Trans - RR - Gilpin County - Gilpin Tramway, work train 1908, 2003.2.192, D-1. Title supplied. Physical Description: 1 negative: glass; 13 x 18 cm.
